I’d like to introduce you to a good friend of mine. Not only is Jim an acclaimed artist with work in private collections all over the world, he is one of the most positive people I know.

His effusive creative energy burns bright from the moment he opens his door to you, to the moment you leave. But it is his window, his kitchen window to be precise, that has the biggest surprise in store.

From the condensation on this one small window, in a modest kitchen in a bungalow in the West of Ireland, juxtaposed with the changing seasons’ light on the background outdoors, he creates ephemeral moments in time captured with a camera or phone.

Twice exhibited in the Royal Ulster Academy for these, his Steamy Windows works, he draws live using only his finger and water vapour on glass. Nothing more, nothing less.

Jim has been a personal influence on me for decades now. And his work has been marvelled at by many, many others. People often ask are they created or manipulated in Photoshop. They are most definitely not.

His figures invite us to read in to them. They speak to us of universal themes, human archetypes and characters in our own lives. Each Steamy Window produces a different response in everyone, for we see ourselves there, through his window.
